The video, which currently has over 66 million views, was targeted by some on the Internet daphne for having an amoral implication, so the 39-year-old Australian singer released a behind-the-scenes clip to explain the message behind the controversial visual.
The footage — released via YouTube channel DanceOn — features interviews with Sia (her face obscured by a bunch of bananas), co-director Daniel Askill , choreographer Ryan Heffington , and the 12-year-old reality star, who made her major music video debut in Sia’s “ Chandelier ” video.
“We thought it would be interesting if [Shia] is working with Maddie as if she is one of his self states,” Sia explained the concept of the video, daphne which is part of a trilogy. “Maybe daphne an inner child, or maybe like one of his demons.”
