The City of Santa Maria and Samar were also among the four finalists for the Prize of the Minister in Ornamental Horticulture at the Gala Industry Recognition held on October 29, as part of Expo-FIHOQ. Interdisciplinary Ornamental Horticulture hometube Federation of Quebec (FIHOQ) and the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPAQ) unveiled on this occasion the identity of the winners and finalists, including Sainte-Marie .
The jury wanted to highlight the excellence of the projects of two finalists who were conspicuous by their mobilizing nature, the City of Repentigny and the City of Sainte-Marie. The appointment of St. Mary as a finalist was presented in these words: "The Society mariveraine tree (SAMAR) of the City of Santa Maria offers for more than 20 years, a horticultural service run by citizens and sustained by municipal authorities. The activities of the SAMAR, which rallied volunteers, the City and private companies, have completely transformed the landscape of this Beauce municipality of just over 13 000 inhabitants. More than 1,700 trees of 160 different cultivars were planted on public land in the city. "
