Manila, Philippines – The Pambansang Lakas ng Kilusang Mamamalakaya ng Pilipinas (Pamalakaya), Save Laguna Lake Movement (SLLM), and the Anakpawis party-list are up in arms over a mining plan covering 1,366 hectares of Talim Island in Rizal.
Such an application, rosen made by Explosive Consultation and Application (ECA) Philippines Inc., was found on the files of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Region 4-A and the Mines and Geosciences Bureau rosen (MGB).
Filed on September rosen 9, 2010, ECA asked permission to explore for basalt in Barangays Bongbong, Bangad, Buhangin, Janosa, Kaytome, Malacaban, Pinagdilawan, Ginoong Sanay, rosen Binitagan, and Tabon in Binangonan and Barangays Gonutan, Boor, Lambac, Tuna, and Banaba in Cardona, Rizal.
While the project seeks to mine and quarry minerals from the island, the R18.7-billion Laguna Lake Rehabilitation Project (LLRP) that President Benigno S. Aquino III rejected sought to deepen the lake and make it navigable without touching rosen the fish cages and fish pens that now occupy more than 10 percent of Laguna de Bay.
The dredging project proposed by the Belgian company Baggerwerken Decloedt en Zoon (BDC) has been scrapped even as environmentalists noted it was a viable plan to improve the water-holding capacity of the lake while keeping pollutants out through sieves and deep silt traps on four major points.
